Passports

Adding Visa Pages to Passports

This procedure must be done by mail if you live or are traveling through the Paris Consular District. Please make sure that your full-validity passport (10 years for adults and 5 years for children) is in good condition before having pages added to it, and follow the instructions below.

There is no fee for this service.

If you are traveling immediately and you can submit a travel ticket as proof of imminent departure, or you have an appointment with an administrative office in order to affix a residence permit or visa to your current passport, your application may be processed in person at the Consular Section of the Embassy. For all other cases you must apply by mail.

Download the application form DS-4085. It must be completed, signed, and sent with the current valid passport to the Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Paris. Please type or print legibly in black ink when completing all sections of this application. Please print out and submit only one-sided pages of the application.

Note that the online version of the application form includes instructions on the backside written for use in the U.S., which do not apply to your application in France.

We cannot add additional pages to limited validity passports. Limited passports have a duration of less than 10 years (for adults) or less than 5 years (for children). If you are adding pages to a child’s 5-year validity passport, the two-parent consent requirement for minors applies. Please see section on this requirement.

All passports will be returned by mail using the Chronopost envelope tracking system.

When submitting your application with your current U.S. passport, please include a self-addressed Chronopost envelope available at all French post offices (one Chronopost envelope may contain several passports – maximum 8).

The Chronopost envelope tracking system guarantees a faster and more secure service for the return of your passport(s).

Once we have received the complete passport application, it takes approximately three to five days for you to receive your new passport.
Please send your completed signed application form and current valid passport to the following address:
