A valid Press Card

 Letter from employer specifying:
- Purpose and duration of mission or assignment and
- Length of time applicant has been with the company (experience).

In addition to the description above, this visa category is also appropriate for those whose activities are essential to the foreign information media function, such as media reporters, media film crews, video editors, and persons in similar occupations.

The I visa classification may be accorded not only to primary employees of foreign information media engaged in filming a news event or documentary, but also to the employees of independent production companies when those employees hold credentials from a professional journalistic association.

Family: Spouses and children under the age of 21 of I visa holders are eligible to accompany the principal applicant to the US as long as he/she demonstrates the means to support his/her family while in the US.  Couples must be legally married to qualify for such derivative visas, as the status of "concubinage" is not recognized by US immigration law.  The pacte civil de solidarité, commonly known as a PACS, is not recognized by US immigration law.  In addition to the basic documentation (separate DS-160 confirmation pages and Mandat-Comptes showing MRV payments, etc.), the spouses and children of I visa holders must submit marriage and birth certificates demonstrating their relationship to the principal applicant.
