Emergency Green Card Replacement
The Embassy cannot provide replacement Permanent Resident cards ("green cards") or extend the validity of an expired card. However, if your card has been lost, stolen, or is expired, you may come to the Embassy to apply for a transportation letter to travel back to the United States. Hours of operation for transportation letters are as follows: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, 9:00 AM – 11:30 AM.
Please note that issuance of a Transportation letter may take 24-48 hours.
Please be advised that in order to obtain a transportation letter, you must provide proof of your current legal permanent resident status (photocopy of green card, etc.). You must also prove that you have been in the U.S. within the last year. In addition to this proof, you will also need to:
- Submit your passport
- Provide three identical photos and;
- Pay the Transportation Letter fee of $165 (or its equivalent in euros). Payment may be made in cash or by credit card. No checks are accepted.
