President Obama's visit to Strasbourg for the NATO Summit
From March 31 to April 7, 2009 : President and Mrs. Obama visit the United Kingdom, France, Germany, the Czech Republic and Turkey
April 3-4, 2009 : Nato summit celebrates the 60th anniversary of the alliance in the French city of Strasbourg and German city of Baden-Baden. At the same time, France is returning to the alliance’s integrated military structure.

April 03: President Obama participates in meetings with President Sarkozy

April 03 : President Obama participates in a Town Hall meeting. He will be giving a speech and taking some questions from students from throughout Europe and discussing the transatlantic alliance.

April 04 : It will be a full day of NATO North Atlantic Council meetings, wherein the President and the Alliance will discuss a range of issues.

NATO History : The North Atlantic Treaty
NATO was founded on April 4, 1949, when the North Atlantic Treaty, also known as the Washington Treaty, was signed in Washington, DC by Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, the UK, and the U.S. Over the past 60 years, NATO has been the cornerstone for common security in the transatlantic region and has grown to include 26 members. -

NATO Summits
From the founding of NATO in 1949 until today there have been twenty-two NATO summits. The last summit meeting to date was held in Bucharest, Romania, in April 2008. The next one will take place on 3-4 April in Strasbourg-Kehl and will also mark the Alliance’s 60th anniversary.
