"A Patchwork of Cultures: A Traveling Exhibit from Louisiana to France" at Paris 5th arrondissement City Hall
January 7-21, 2009
The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy is currently presenting a traveling exhibit on American quilts: "A Patchwork of Cultures: A Traveling Exhibit from Louisiana to France" at the the City Hall of Paris 5th arrondissement (ground floor, René Capitant room) from January 7 to 21. It is organized in partnership with the City of Lafayette (Louisiana), France Patchwork Association, France Louisiane-France Américanie and the historic quilt shop Le Rouvray that introduced quilting in France. This collection of 25 quilts showcases two aspects of contemporary American culture and craftwork: twelve quilts, selected from an original exhibit curated for Lafayette commemorations in Lafayette last year, will portray Franco-American friendship and an additional thirteen quilts portray the African-American tradition of quilting, mostly unknown in France.
Address: Mairie du 5e arrondissement de Paris, 21 Place du Panthéon 75005 Paris
