Franco-American Dialogue in the Field of Philanthropy
October 01, 2008
Ambassador Stapleton hosted a seminar on "Building Franco-American Partnership in the Field of Philanthropy: A Best Practices Forum" on the role of philanthropy in strengthening transatlantic relations. In order to identify how best to keep our joint philanthropic work vital and effective, topics addressed included recent trends in philanthropy in both countries, American philanthropy toward France with a glimpse of its distinguished history and an assessment of current activity, and a look toward the future. Guests included representatives from American and French foundations, major donors’ organizations, think tanks, the Ministry of Culture, corporate foundations and social responsibility programs, as well as consultants, lawyers, academics, and journalists. French Connection Films presented a clip from a documentary celebrating Franco-American philanthropy and portraying key figures and institutions. This successful event provided a valuable opportunity for the 120 participants to build their networks, increase their knowledge and share best practices.
