Embassy Provides Forum for Established and New Media to Discuss Diversity in France
March 27, 2008
Approximately 300 journalists and editors from established and new media, bloggers, activists and government representatives met at the historic France-Ameriques building for a half-day conference on “Media and New Urban Generations”. American journalists, Audrey Edwards (founding member of the New York Association of Black Journalists) and Miles Marshall Lewis (formerly of the Rolling Stones and Village Voice) and professor, Nabil Echchaibi each participated in one of three panels. Robert Namias, Deputy Director of the television station TF1, Claude Grunitzky co-founder of Trace TV, and former IV Amirouche Laidi, President of Club Averroes were among the other panel participants.
Panel members and the audience discussed diversity in the media, how France’s diverse communities are (or are not) represented in the media, why and how new media is developing and the similarities and differences in French and American experiences with media and diversity. Trace TV, lead by former IV Olivier Laouchez co-sponsored the event with the Embassy. Several media outlets reported on the conference and issues it raised.
