Marquis de la Fayette - Commemorating 250 Years

On October 25, Ambassador Stapleton hosted a reception launching commemorations for the 250th Anniversary of the birth of the Marquis de La Fayette (1757-2007). In her opening remarks, co-president of “The Spirit of La Fayette” Committee, Ms Virginia Stuller, presented a year of celebrations in the U.S. and France. Guests included President of Lafayette Consolidated Government Joey Durel, senior officials from Lafayette, representatives from the French Ministries of Culture, Education and Foreign Affairs, members of Franco-American associations, journalists, business leaders, historians, academics, and artists from Louisiana and France. Ambassador Stapleton is on the Honorary Committee for the 2007 Marquis de Lafayette Commemorations along with French Ambassador to the U.S., Jean-David Levitte and other French and U.S. officials. Partners include : associations Hermione-Lafayette, France Etats-Unis, France-Amériques, France-Louisiane Franco-Américanie, La Corderie Royale, Actupresse, Publicis, Château Chavaniac, Villes de Langeac, Suresnes, Issy-les Moulineaux, Poitiers, Conseil Général des Hauts-de-Seine.
