Ambassador Stapleton's Official Visit to Rouen

On August 10, Ambassador Stapleton made his first official visit to Rouen where he met with Le Havre sous-préfet Michel Schmidt de la Brelie, Deputy Mayor for Heritage and Tourism Laure Leforestier and President of Haute Normandie region Alain Le Vern. To all he communicated his strong support of Franco-American projects in the region and in particular for FRAME. Ambassador visited the fine arts museum of Rouen, member of FRAME (French Regional American Museum Exchange), with curator Laurent Salomé. Deputy Mayor Leforestier also guided the Ambassador for a walking tour of the old quarters during which he could witness the city’s important conservation policy to restore and promote its historic heritage. This visit garnered significant media coverage. Regional daily Paris-Normandie (circulation 150,000) published an interview of the Ambassador in which he emphasized the Franco-US cooperation on war on terrorism and current peacekeeping efforts in Lebanon. It also published positive reports of the Ambassador’s visit. Regional TV France 3 Normandie also broadcasted a full coverage of his visit in its evening edition.
