Ambassador's Visit to Lyon
December 14-16, 2005
14 December 2005: During the first day of their first official visit to Lyon, Ambassador and Mrs. Stapleton visited the Prelle silk-weaving factory, met with the mayor of Lyon, and met with the president of the Regional Council.
15 December 2005: During the second day of their first official visit to Lyon, Ambassador and Mrs. Stapleton met with the heads of key US businesses, visited the Grand Mosque, visited the Center for the History of the Resistance and Deportation, attended a lunch hosted in their honor by the Prefect, presented a grant to Jean Moulin University’s new center for research on US foreign policy, met with the Interpol Secretary General and the Americans working at Interpol, and attended (and made remarks at) the annual dinner of Club Convergences.
16 December 2005: During the third day of their first official visit to Lyon, Ambassador and Mrs. Stapleton spoke on the Franco-American partnership at an Aspen Institute event, took a guided tour of Lyon’s old city, met with the leadership of the American Club of Lyon, gave a radio interview to RCF, and visited the Fine Arts Museum.
