Ambassador Welcome in Caen and Rennes
October 11-12, 2005
Ambassador Stapleton received a warm reception during his initial visits to Caen and Rennes October 11-12. The mayors and prefects in both cities shared their views on the economic challenges facing western France. The Ambassador toured several WWII memorials in Normandy, as well as the Caen Peace Memorial. While in Rennes, he spoke to the Institut Franco-Americain, where he viewed an exhibit of paintings by an American artist. He also met with the editorial staff of regional newspaper Ouest France. The Ambassador’s interview, conducted in French, received front-page coverage.
