November 4, 2004
Ambassador Howard H. Leach attended the inauguration of the exhibit "France in America: Photographs by Arielle de La Tour d’Auvergne" organized by the French Heritage Society at the Mona Bismarck Foundation on November 4.
French Heritage Society has recently published a coffee table book entitled “France in America: Architectural Heritage from Colonization to the Birth of a Nation.” This book provides a broad overview of the history of 250 French structures remaining in the United States, ranging from Creole houses in Illinois, Missouri and Louisiana to the US Capitol, the New York City Hall and Monticello. The original photographs of the book are being presented at the Mona Bismarck Foundation.
The author, Ron Katz, is an American living in Paris. He has been a journalist and editor for over 20 years and has written extensively on travel and business issues for several newspapers and magazines, including the London Sunday Times and the International Herald Tribune. He is presently editor-in-chief of Documentary Credits Insight, a business magazine that sells in more than 120 countries.
Arielle de La Tour d’Auvergne, the photographer, has worked for various international organizations, including Comité des Parcs et Jardins de France and Fondation Théodora pour les Enfants. She has done photographic spreads for magazines, album covers and is currently working on a project on Argentina.
